Does my data leave my browser?

No. All extraction, formatting and file generation happen locally in the browser. The extension makes no network calls with conversation content. The only outbound calls are: anonymous analytics (opt-out, no content sent), license validation (sends only the license key), and image fetching using your existing ChatGPT session credentials.

Does Export ChatGPT send my conversations to any server?

Never. The extension converts your ChatGPT conversation into a file entirely within your browser. No conversation content, message text, titles, or URLs are ever transmitted to any external server including ours.

Is Export ChatGPT safe to install?

Yes. The extension uses a strict Content Security Policy that prevents any remotely-loaded scripts. Every script ships inside the extension package. Permissions are limited to the minimum required and scoped exclusively to chatgpt.com and chat.openai.com.

What permissions does the extension require and why?

Five permissions: activeTab (read the ChatGPT tab you are on), scripting (inject the extractor on demand), downloads (save the exported file), storage (remember your preferences), and clipboardWrite (copy output to clipboard). Host permissions are limited to chatgpt.com and chat.openai.com only.

Does the extension track my browsing?

No. The extension only activates on chatgpt.com and chat.openai.com. It does not have access to your browsing history, other tabs, or any site outside ChatGPT.

What analytics does Export ChatGPT collect?

Optional, anonymous event analytics via PostHog (EU region). Only event names and primitive properties are sent. No conversation content, titles, message text, or URLs are ever included. Your IP address is explicitly not stored. Disable analytics entirely with the toggle in the extension popup.

Can I use Export ChatGPT completely offline?

Free features (Markdown, JSON, Plain Text, CSV) work entirely offline with no internet connection required. Pro users get a 7-day offline grace period: if the license server is unreachable, Pro features stay unlocked based on the last successful check.

What formats are free?

Markdown (.md), JSON (.json), Plain Text (.txt), and CSV (.csv) are permanently free with no usage limits. PDF, HTML, and Excel require a Pro license or an active free trial.

What formats does Pro unlock?

Pro unlocks PDF (print-optimized via the browser's native print dialog), HTML (self-contained document with built-in dark-mode toggle), and Excel (.xlsx with images embedded as real spreadsheet pictures). Pro also removes the footer from HTML exports and enables self-contained image embedding.

How does the PDF export work?

The extension generates print-optimized HTML from your conversation and opens it in a dedicated browser tab, then triggers the native print dialog. You save as PDF using your browser's built-in Save as PDF option. No third-party PDF library or remote rendering is used.

Can I export to Excel with embedded images?

Yes. The Excel export decodes conversation images from their data URLs and anchors them as real spreadsheet pictures inside the .xlsx file. Rows auto-size to fit images. The .xlsx writer is built from scratch with no external library dependencies.

Can I copy the export to my clipboard instead of downloading?

Yes, for all text-based formats: Markdown, JSON, Plain Text, and CSV can all be copied to clipboard from the popup, preview page, or in-page panel. PDF and Excel are binary formats and cannot be clipboard-copied.

What does the Markdown export include?

A metadata header (title, model name, export date, message count, source URL), horizontal rules between turns, fenced code blocks with language labels, Markdown tables, image alt-text links, and attachment listings.

What does the JSON export look like?

A pretty-printed file with schema version 1. It preserves the full block model: headings, paragraphs, code blocks with language, lists, tables, images, and blockquotes. Code blocks and images are also listed separately at the top level for easy programmatic access.

What does the HTML export include?

A fully self-contained document with inline CSS, built-in dark-mode toggle, responsive design, print-optimized styles, lazy-loaded images, code blocks with language labels, and tables. It works offline with no external dependencies.

Does it work with long conversations?

Yes. ChatGPT virtualizes long conversations. Export ChatGPT scrolls through the entire conversation from top to bottom, capturing each turn as it mounts. It performs multiple passes to ensure all messages and images are captured.

Can I export images from the conversation?

Yes. With Include images and attachments enabled, the extension fetches each image using your existing ChatGPT session and embeds it as a self-contained base64 data URL. Files remain viewable offline. Link mode keeps original image URLs for smaller files.

Does it preserve code blocks?

Yes. Code blocks are extracted with their language label intact. In Markdown they become fenced blocks with the language identifier. In HTML they get a styled pre/code wrapper with the language label displayed.

Does it export tables correctly?

Yes. Tables are extracted with full headers and body rows. They render as Markdown tables, HTML tables, and as spreadsheet columns in CSV and Excel.

Does it capture nested lists, blockquotes, and inline formatting?

Yes. The extractor fully supports nested ordered and unordered lists, blockquotes including nested ones, bold, italic, inline code, strikethrough, and hyperlinks.

Can I preview the export before downloading?

Yes. Export ChatGPT provides a split preview pane that opens inline on the ChatGPT page, and a full-page preview tab. Both render the live output before you download. Switch formats and toggle options to see the result instantly.

Can I see the raw source of the export?

Yes. The full preview page has a Source tab that shows the exact raw text output alongside the rendered preview.

Does Export ChatGPT work on all ChatGPT subscription tiers?

Yes. It works on ChatGPT Free, Plus, Team, and Enterprise, on both chatgpt.com and chat.openai.com. The extension reads the rendered page directly and does not use the ChatGPT API.

Does it work with Google Chrome?

Yes. Export ChatGPT is a Chrome extension (Manifest V3) available from the Chrome Web Store. Google Chrome is required.

Where is the extension installed from?

Export ChatGPT is installed directly from the Chrome Web Store. No manual download or developer mode is required.

How much does Pro cost?

$19 as a one-time lifetime payment. No subscription, no renewal. Every future Pro feature is included. A limited launch price is currently active.

Is there a free trial for Pro?

Yes. During onboarding you are offered a 7-day free trial of Pro with 20 Pro exports. No credit card is required. The trial falls back to the Free plan when it expires or the exports are exhausted.

How does license activation work?

After purchase you receive a license key from Polar, the payment provider. Enter the key in the extension popup to activate Pro. Only the key and a public organization ID are sent to Polar for validation. The result is cached locally with a 7-day offline grace period.

Will my Pro license survive if I uninstall and reinstall the extension?

Yes. The license key is mirrored to chatgpt.com localStorage, which survives extension uninstalls. When you reinstall, the extension reads the key and auto-restores your Pro status.

Is there a refund policy?

Does Export ChatGPT work with Claude, Gemini, or other AI chatbots?

Not currently. Export ChatGPT is built exclusively for ChatGPT on chatgpt.com and chat.openai.com. Claude, Gemini, Grok, and other AI platforms are not supported in the current version.

Will you add support for Claude or Gemini?

Support for additional AI platforms is a noted future direction but is not currently implemented. The current version works exclusively with ChatGPT.

What languages does the extension UI support?

Export ChatGPT supports 10 languages: English, German, Japanese, French, Korean, Spanish, Dutch, Arabic, Chinese Simplified, and Portuguese Brazil. Arabic includes full right-to-left layout support.

Does the extension support right-to-left languages?

Yes. Arabic triggers a full right-to-left layout in the extension interface.

The export shows no messages. What should I do?

This usually means the page is still loading. Wait for the ChatGPT conversation to fully appear, then try again. If the problem persists, reload the ChatGPT tab and try again.

The export is missing some messages from a long conversation.

The extractor scrolls through the entire conversation automatically, but occasionally the page may not load all messages in time. Trigger the export again to run another pass.

My images are not appearing in the export.

Make sure Include images and attachments is enabled. If images still do not appear, the original URLs may have expired. Ensure you are logged in to ChatGPT when exporting, as the extension fetches images using your active session.

What is the filename format for exported files?

Exports use the pattern: {sanitized_conversation_title}_{YYYY-MM-DD}.{extension}. For example: my-research-session_2025-06-26.md. The title is detected automatically from the page.

Is Export ChatGPT affiliated with OpenAI?

No. Export ChatGPT is an independent Chrome extension and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or associated with OpenAI in any way. ChatGPT and OpenAI are trademarks of OpenAI.

Can I split the user and assistant messages into separate files?

Yes. A split-by-role option exports user messages and assistant messages as two separate files. This is useful for building prompt and response datasets.

Does Export ChatGPT include conversation metadata in the export?

Yes, optionally. With metadata enabled, the export header contains the conversation title, AI model used, export date, message count, and source URL. Disable metadata for a clean export without the header.

Does it support dark mode?

The extension UI respects your system color scheme. The HTML export ships with a built-in dark-mode toggle that recipients can use.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By installing, accessing, or using the Export ChatGPT Chrome extension or the website at https://export.migratemyaichat.com (“Service”), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service (“Terms”). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the Service.

2. Description of Service

Export ChatGPT is a Google Chrome browser extension that enables users to export ChatGPT conversations to various file formats including Markdown, JSON, HTML, PDF, plain text, CSV, and Excel. All conversation processing is performed locally on the user's device.

The Service includes a Free tier and an optional paid Pro tier. A free trial of Pro features may be offered during onboarding.

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. By using the Service, you represent that you meet this age requirement and have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms.

4. License Grant

Subject to your compliance with these Terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the Export ChatGPT extension on devices you own or control, solely for your personal or internal business purposes.

You may not:

Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the extension
Redistribute, sell, or sublicense the extension or its code
Remove or alter any proprietary notices or branding
Use the extension in any way that violates applicable law
Use the extension to scrape or bulk-collect data from third-party platforms in violation of those platforms' terms of service
Share, transfer, or resell your license key

5. Pro License & Payments

5.1 Pro Tier

Pro features (PDF, HTML, and Excel export; image embedding) are unlocked with a one-time payment of $19 (subject to change; launch pricing honored for purchasers at time of purchase). Payment is processed by Polar, the merchant of record.

5.2 License Key

Upon purchase you receive a license key. The key is personal and non-transferable. Sharing your key with others is a violation of these Terms and may result in the key being revoked without refund.

5.3 Free Trial

We may offer a free trial of Pro features (currently 7 days and 20 Pro exports, no credit card required). Trial terms may change at any time. When the trial ends, the extension reverts to the Free tier.

5.4 Pricing Changes

We reserve the right to change pricing at any time. Existing lifetime Pro purchasers will not be affected by price increases.

6. Refund Policy

Because Export ChatGPT is a digital product that delivers immediate value upon purchase and a free trial is available before purchase, we maintain a limited refund policy:

Within 7 days of purchase — we will issue a full refund if requested, provided fewer than 5 Pro exports have been made using the license.
After 7 days — refunds are handled at our discretion on a case-by-case basis.
Refunds are processed by Polar. To request a refund, email support@migratemyaichat.com with your order details.

7. Third-Party Platforms

Export ChatGPT operates on chatgpt.com and chat.openai.com, which are operated by OpenAI. We are not affiliated with OpenAI. Your use of ChatGPT is governed by OpenAI's own Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.

We make no representations about the continued availability or compatibility of the extension with ChatGPT's interface. OpenAI may change ChatGPT's DOM structure at any time, which may temporarily affect extension functionality.

8. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or compatible with all browsers or ChatGPT configurations.

9. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, EXPORT CHATGPT AND ITS OPERATORS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING LOSS OF DATA, LOSS OF PROFITS, OR LOSS OF GOODWILL, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE SERVICE.

OUR TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING FROM THESE TERMS OR YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM.

10. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Export ChatGPT and its operators from any claims, damages, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your violation of these Terms or your use of the Service in violation of applicable law.

11. Intellectual Property

All rights in the Export ChatGPT extension, website, and associated content (including code, design, branding, and documentation) are owned by Export ChatGPT. Nothing in these Terms grants you ownership rights.

“ChatGPT” and “OpenAI” are trademarks of OpenAI LP. Their use in our product name is descriptive only and does not imply affiliation or endorsement.

12. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time if you violate these Terms, with or without notice. Upon termination, your license to use the extension is revoked. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination (including Sections 8, 9, 10, and 11) will do so.

13. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with applicable law. Any dispute shall be resolved through good-faith negotiation before pursuing any formal legal proceedings. Contact us at support@migratemyaichat.com to initiate dispute resolution.

14. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms at any time. The “Last updated” date above will change when we do. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. For material changes, we will provide notice through the extension's update notes or the website.

These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Export ChatGPT regarding the Service and supersede all prior agreements.
